Idiom: Wagon

I randomly picked this week’s idiom

circle the wagons

Interestingly, this idiom has two different meanings. If you circle the wagons, you stop communicating with people who don’t think the same way as you to avoid their ideas. It can also mean to bring everyone together to defend a group against an attack. I think the second meaning is more common. Anyway, both of them imply the acting of avoiding something. Do you have any experience of circling the wagons?
